There are many reasons a couple may choose not to be married in a church or synagogue. This often means that the couple will also choose to have a Justice of the Peace perform their marriage ceremony for them. The bride and groom can then help to write their own vows and set the tone for their marriage ceremony. When choosing a Justice of the Peace keep these thoughts in mind.

  • Ask friends and family if they know a Justice of the Peace who would be appropriate for performing your ceremony.

  • Meet with a couple different JPs to get a feel for what options they can offer you.

  • You should feel comfortable and confident in the person you ultimately choose.

  • Work with the Justice of the Peace you choose to come up with a ceremony and vows which suit your individual style.

  • Review with them the date, and time of your rehearsal as well as your ceremony.
